The Acid blue 9 is a dark blue to reddish violet synthetic dye that is provided in the form of powder or granules and has an attenuated metallic shimmer. It is very soluble in water and dissolves with high solubility at high temperatures, and dissolves in ethanol also. In aqueous solutions, it forms a greenish-blue color which turns colorless with sodium hydroxide to give a deep purple precipitate. The dye reacts differently with the sulfuric acid showing orange colorant which changes to yellow with dilution. Acid blue 9 has a molecular formula of C37H34N2Na2O9S3, Acid blue 9 is a triarylmethane dye also called brilliant blue FCF, FD& C Blue No. 1, C.I. 42090. The food color code of it is E133.
