- Ferric Nitrate, Nonahydrate ACS is considered a useful oxidant in organic synthesis, specifically for the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes.
- It is an inorganic iron salt that is used as an iron precursor for the synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles.
- It is used as a catalyst in the oxidation of 1o, 2o, and benzylic alcohols to their corresponding carbonyl compounds in the presence of heteropoly acids and a promoter in the synthesis of polycrystalline boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) by a ball milling-annealing method.
