Application :

  • tert-Butyl alcohol ACS is an active ingredient in paint remover and also used in cosmetics and skin care formulations.
  • It acts as an intermediate in the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether and ethyl tertiary butyl ether by reaction with methanol and ethanol.
  • It is also used in the preparation of tert-butyl chloride, tert-butyl hydroperoxide, isobutylene and methyl methacrylate.
  • Mixture of tert-butanol and methanol solvent system is used in the synthesis of glycerol dioleates (GDO) via lipase-catalyzed esterification of glycerol with oleic acid.
  • It can be used as a solvent in the oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid using Cu-MnO2 as a catalyst and tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as an oxidant.
