.Martius Yellow is a vivid yellow to orange-yellow crystalline powder. Also known as Naphthol Yellow S or 1-Amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid, it is a synthetic azo dye with the chemical formula C10H6N2O5. This dye is soluble in water and alcohol, but not in organic solvents. Martius Yellow has been utilized to stain erythrocytes yellow in trichrome staining methods such as Lendrum's Picro Mallory and Slidder's Martius, Scarlet and Blue (MSB), in order to contrast well with red fibrin. Additionally, it can be combined with other small molecular weight yellow dyes to enhance stain intensity.
