Evans Blue C.I. 23860

Evans Blue C.I. 23860 CAS: 314-13-6 | MF: C34H24N6Na4O14S4 | MW: 960.83, Buy now for reliable and reproducible results from Tristains at Chemical World.

Evans Blue (also known as C.I. 23860 and Direct Blue 53 (CAS No. 314-13-6)) is a synthetic azo dye, designed with the formula C34H24N6Na4O14S4. It is provided in form of dark blue to black crystalline solid and is highly soluble in water and polar solvents. Evans Blue is well known due to its intense blue color and is a good tracer of high molecular weight proteins because it binds to serum albumin. This is a desirable property of it in physiological work, especially in measuring plasma volume and vascular permeability. The fact that it combines reliability with other characteristics makes it a favorite in biomedical, analytical and industry applications.

Applications

  • Staining in Cell Biology and Histology: Evans Blue is widely applied in histology and cell staining to emphasize both tissue architecture and cellular constituents to be examined under a microscope.
  • Biomedical Research: The dye is vital in studying circulation, vascular permeability and assessing blood-tissue barrier integrity.
  • Protein Binding Studies: Evans Blue is widely used in experiments on protein binding because it strongly interacts with serum albumin.
  • Analytical Chemistry: Evans blue is bright and stable in blue color, suitable for various methods of analyzing chemistry that demand color consistency.

Key features

  • Good Stability of Color: Offers a blue stain that is long-lasting and intense enough to be used in long-term analysis and staining.
  • Wide Applicability: Dissolves in water and polar solvents, allowing wide application in laboratory and industrial processes.
  • High Stability: Keeps performance and color integrity in diverse environmental conditions.

For Research Use Only. Not Intended for Diagnostic or Therapeutic Use. * Refer to Certificate of Analysis for lot specific data (including water content).

Evans blue is a potent inhibitor of L-glutamate uptake into synaptic vesicles via EAAT. Evans Blue also inhibits AMPA and kainate receptor-mediated currents (IC50 values are 220 and 150 nM respectively). The compound is also a P2X-selective purinoceptor antagonist. Used as a dye, Evans blue reduces unwanted fluorescence due to the conjugation and auto fluorescence of structural elements in the tissue or cells.
