Application :

  • In histology, Evans Blue is used as a staining agent, particularly in combination with other dyes, to enhance the visualization of tissues, cells, and cellular structures under a microscope.
  • In the field of biomedical research, it is widely used as a tracer dye to study vascular permeability and blood-tissue barrier integrity.
  • Evans Blue is employed in various protein binding assays, such as albumin-binding studies, due to its ability to bind to serum albumin.

Benefits :

  • Ensures the longevity of the color in various applications
  • Versatile and stable
  • Valuable colorant in various applications where a bold, vibrant blue is desired
Alternate Names Direct blue 53; CI 23860

Evans blue is a potent inhibitor of L-glutamate uptake into synaptic vesicles via EAAT. Evans Blue also inhibits AMPA and kainate receptor-mediated currents (IC50 values are 220 and 150 nM respectively). The compound is also a P2X-selective purinoceptor antagonist. Used as a dye, Evans blue reduces unwanted fluorescence due to the conjugation and auto fluorescence of structural elements in the tissue or cells.
