Eosin Y Certified (CAS No. 17372-87-1) is a water-soluble histological stain that is a reddish-orange colored red to brown powder. It is a certified dye derived by means of Eosin B and its molecular formula is C20H6Br4Na2O5 with other names being Acid Red 87, Bromofluorescein, Eosin Yellowish and Solvent Red 43. It is commonly applied as a counterstain in Hematoxylin and Eosin staining. The certified grade provides purity and consistency which is standardized and is thus applicable in histology, cytology, biology, and related laboratory disciplines.

Applications

  • Approved Counterstain in Staining Procedures: Eosin Y Certified is widely used as a counterstain in H&E (Hematoxylin and Eosin) staining, where it enhances cellular and tissue structures by providing clear contrast.
  • Counterstain in Common Staining Techniques: Eosin Y Certified is routinely applied in H&E staining methods to stain cells and other microscopic structures, improving their visibility through contrast enhancement.
  • Use in Cytology: In cytological and cell biology applications, Eosin Y Certified functions as a protein metabolism stain and a nonspecific cellular stain, highlighting major cellular components involved in cell morphology and protein distribution studies.

Key features

  • Quality Assurance: Eosin Y Certified undergoes strict quality control testing and is verified for purity and reliability, ensuring dependable use in histological and cytological procedures.
  • Accuracy in Microscopic Tissue Examination: Eosin Y Certified supports precision-verified cytobiological analysis, enabling accurate microscopic evaluation of tissue samples.
  • Additional Staining Capabilities: Due to its superior staining characteristics, Eosin Y Certified is suitable for use in a wide range of histology and microscopy techniques.

General Description

The Eosin Y Certified (CAS No. 17372-87-1) is high-purity histological stain with a red colour of orange and a molecular formula of C20H6Br4Na2O5. It is also referred to as Bromofluorescein, Acid Red 87 or Eosin Yellowish. Certification means that the dye should have the required quality and performance criteria in laboratory research and diagnostics. Being an Eosin B derivative, Eosin Y Certified is mainly applied to counterstain during the H&E staining procedures, which is among the most popular techniques in histology and microscopy.

Alternate Names 2,4,5,7-Tetrabromofluorescein; Acid Red 87
Application Eosin Y sodium salt is a red fluorescent dye from the xanthene family
CAS Number 17372-87-1
Molecular Weight 691.85
Molecular Formula: C20H6Br4O5â€2Na
For Research Use Only. Not Intended for Diagnostic or Therapeutic Use. * Refer to Certificate of Analysis for lot specific data (including water content).

Eosin Y, a red xanthene dye, has been noted to reduce the affinity of Mg2+-ATPase for ATP and increase the enzyme affinity for Mg2+ at concentrations of 10-50 M. At higher concentrations near 100 M the affinity for Mg2+-ATPase for the ion-activator has been shown to be reduced. This compound has also been reported to be a photosensitizer that works as a molecular photoelectrode via catalyzation of the visible-light-driven electron-transfer reaction. Eosin Y has been used to stain structures such as muscle, cytoplasm, and collagen. This agent also enhances fluorescent quenching abilities by forming a complex with polyvinulpyrrolidone.
