Brilliant Cresyl blue is a useful electroactive indicator dye often incorporated in electrochemical DNA oligonucleotide sensors in which different signals are observed depending on the presence of ssDNA or dsDNA. Studies show that the intensity observed from brilliant cresyl blue is linearly related to the concentration of the target oligonucleotide sequence in the range of 1.0x10-8 to 5.0x10-6M. In addition, brilliant cresyl blue fluorescence can be intensified with the addition of cyclodextrins. Alternate studies indicate that brilliant cresyl blue can be used to select developmentally competent oocytes for nuclear transfer and enhance the blastocyte development rate after transfer.
