Methyl Tert-butyl Ether (MTBE)

ACS Grade Methyl Tert-butyl Ether (MTBE) | CAS: 1634-04-4 | M.F: (CH3)3COCH3 | MW: 88.15, Buy now for reproducible and consistent results from ChemieR at Chemical World.

Methyl tert butyl ether ACS is a clear, odorless and volatile organic liquid with a faint minty smell. It exhibits limited solubility in water and has a chemical formula of C5H12O. This compound belongs to a category of chemicals referred to as oxygenates, which are recognized for increasing the oxygen levels in gasoline. The production of MTBE involves the chemical reaction between methanol and isobutylene. Additionally, it is identified by various names such as MTBE, MTB, TBME, 2-Methoxy-2-methylpropane, and tert-butyl methyl ether. It is commonly utilized in various industries.

ChemieR offers a comprehensive range of ACS grade and ISO 9001:2015 certified products, including high-purity solvents, inorganic reagents, acids, bases, and organic reagents. Our high-quality materials ensure your laboratory achieves precise, reproducible results every time. Rely on ChemieR for trusted, premium-grade chemicals that meet the highest industry standards.

Application :

  • Methyl tert butyl ether ACS is primarily used as a fuel additive in gasoline to raise the octane number by oxygenating the gasoline to reduce engine knocking.
  • It may be used to synthesize fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) and glycerol tert-butyl ether via transesterification with canola oil under supercritical conditions.
  • It is also used as a solvent and has a distinct advantage over most other ether solvents as it reduces the tendency of forming organic peroxides.

Key features :

  • High quality and purity product which met the toughest standard of the American Chemical Society (ACS)
  • Improves octane ratings
  • Reduces pollutant emission
  • Relatively inexpensive solvent
